Tomis Documentation

Tomis is a private, native AI workspace for iOS 17+. Conversations, files, memories, and projects are encrypted on your device. Connect your own local or hosted AI endpoint, or choose Tomis Cloud for managed private AI hosted in Europe. A macOS version is coming soon.

Providers

Choose a provider in Settings > Connection. Each provider stores its own base URL and API key, so switching back and forth preserves credentials.

  • Tomis Cloud — optional managed models and cloud tools hosted in Europe at ai.tomis.app.
  • OpenAI Compatible — connect any hosted or local service that exposes OpenAI-style API routes, including OpenAI, OpenRouter, EU Router at eurouter.ai, Together, LM Studio, vLLM, and custom gateways.
  • Ollama — use Ollama's native API with Ollama Cloud at ollama.com or your own local or remote Ollama server.

Ollama also exposes OpenAI-compatible routes, so there is some overlap. Tomis keeps a separate Ollama connection because it uses Ollama's native /api routes for Ollama-specific model metadata and native web search. Use OpenAI Compatible for services exposing OpenAI-style /v1 routes; use Ollama when connecting directly to an Ollama server.

Tomis Cloud

Tomis Cloud is the optional managed connection for people who do not want to configure an endpoint or API key. Sign in with Apple to access a live catalogue of primary, background, and specialist models plus integrated cloud tools hosted in Europe.

  • Image generation — creates images through AI services based in Europe and returns them to Tomis for encrypted local storage.
  • Web search — searches the live web through services based in Europe and renders source cards beside the answer.
  • Speech to text — uses AI services based in Europe for uploaded audio and real-time transcription workflows.
  • Managed model routing — selects primary and background models by their advertised role and capabilities.

Tomis Cloud runs through European, privacy-respecting infrastructure and AI services based in Europe. Cloud features process the content needed to complete each request. Image generation and cloud transcription require Tomis Pro; usage and credit requirements can vary by feature.

Thinking

Reasoning models show an expandable Thinking box above the answer so you can follow the chain of thought, or collapse it to focus on the result. Dial the depth per conversation — Off to Max for Ollama reasoning models, Low to High for OpenAI-compatible endpoints.

Tools

Available tools depend on the provider and your Pro status. Built-in tools include:

  • web_search — real-time search with source cards and links.
  • consult_files — search attached project files.
  • consult_obsidian / describe_obsidian_images — search and analyze linked Obsidian vaults (Pro).
  • create_obsidian_note / append_to_obsidian_note / update_obsidian_note / move_obsidian_note / delete_obsidian_note / save_attachment_to_obsidian — full Obsidian CRUD (Pro).
  • find_nearby_places / search_places / create_route — maps, multi-stop routes, local search.
  • get_weather — current conditions and forecasts.
  • create_calendar_event / read_calendar_events / update_calendar_event / delete_calendar_event — full calendar CRUD; parses .ics invites.
  • save_memory / update_memory / delete_memory — extract, correct, and recall facts across conversations (Pro).
  • generate_canvas — visual documents, diagrams, summaries (Pro).

Privacy & Security

Your Tomis workspace lives on your device and is encrypted. API keys and encryption material are stored in the Keychain. Model requests go only to the provider selected for that conversation. Optional iCloud sync uploads encrypted content records; shared projects use end-to-end encryption and an owner-approved trust flow. Auto Key Sync can make a profile key available through your private iCloud account, or you can disable it and transfer profile keys in person with a QR code.

Project Sharing

Projects are end-to-end encrypted shared spaces for files, memories, instructions, and group conversations. The owner approves every member with an owner-signed QR invite and assigns Viewer, Editor, or Admin access. The project key is wrapped for each approved device. Revoking a member ratchets the key and re-encrypts every record.
